Moving coal and waste materials was critical to the operation of the colliery. These pages show the different transport needs and how they were resolved.
- The colliery was linked to the main railway line and had it's own locomotives within the site.
- Shale was carried from the mine to the brickworks across the Old Walsall Road.
- Coal was transported on a tramway up to a depot at the top of Hamstead Hill.
- Coal was transported to a canal wharf on the pit
- Waste materials were taken to the tip.
One remaining feature is that as you drive along Hamstead Road near Amberley green there is a raised area of road which was a bridge under which the tramway ran from the colliery to the canal and tip.
